Material Scientist

 

High Temperature Superconductors, Inc. (HTS) develops and manufactures high temperature superconductive wire and complementary products. HTS is based in Santa Barbara, CA.

HTS is hiring a Materials Scientist with experience in high temperature superconducting materials growth and characterization. The ideal candidate will have experience with REBCO superconductors and will be intimately familiar with deposition, measurements, and structure-function relationships. You will work with process engineers and metrology/test engineers to optimize deposition processes, set up test protocols and direct the development of the superconducting layer. You will be responsible for taking the process to production including developing work instructions and SPC methods. Familiarity with use and function of vacuum tools is preferred. Prior experience with pulsed laser deposition is a plus. Senior Scientist preferred, but we are also open to an entry-level position or a recent graduate if PhD is completed in a relevant field.

Process Engineer Sputtering

HTS is hiring a Process/Senior Process Engineer to oversee various sputter deposition processes used in the production of high temperature superconducting wires. The ideal candidate will have prior hands-on experience with vacuum deposition equipment and processes, in particular dc, ac or RF sputtering. You will be part of a team bringing new equipment online and driving initial process development and optimization. You will ultimately be responsible for several sputter tools, take the processes to production, train technicians/operators and develop SPC process control. Familiarity with clean room protocol is desired. This could be an entry or senior level position depending on experience.

SENIOR ELECTROPOLISH AND ELECTROPLATING ENGINEER

HiTS is searching for a Senior Electropolish and Electroplating Engineer to oversee all electropolishing and electroplating activities. You will be responsible for all wet processing steps in superconducting wire production, including ultrasonic cleaning, electropolishing and electroplating. You will take these processes through the development stage to production as well as overseeing production. The ideal candidate will have prior hands-on experience with electropolishing and plating, a solid understanding of the required chemistry and will be able to drive equipment design, process development and optimization. Prior wet lab experience, safe chemical handling practices and hazardous waste training is required.

Mechanical Design Engineer responsibilities include:

  • Design and optimize mechanical and electromechanical components and machines, including selection of appropriate components and materials.
  • Evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems by applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials science.

Facilities Manager responsibilities include:
